video card

Running 98 ME on a hp cpu
installed a nivida g force 4, problem when i go to
shutdown the computer. it wants to go to stanby or
hibernation. Then have to push in the power button to shut
off. When i turn it on, it goes to scan disk.

When i take the card back out and hook up to on board
video it shuts down perfect.

please help

Have you disabled the onboard video in BIOS?  You must begin with that.

Then, boot into safemode.  Remove ALL video adapters found in device
manager.  Uninstall ANY and ALL video drivers (from Control Panel/Add-Remove
Programs.)

Reboot in normal mode.  Windows will find and install your GeForce.  Make
sure to downlaod the newest drivers from Nvidia, and then install them.
Make sure to check HP's site for any updated drivers for your Motherboard,
especially for your AGP port.
