Stopping the A:\ drive search
Here is the drill I go through with this problem.
System is constantly checking the A: drive
1. The A: drive is in the "Recent" list (C:\Windows\Recent) and you have
Documents in
your Start list.
In Millennium START |Settings | Taskbar and Start Menu | Advanced
Click the
"Clear" button.
2. A virus scanner is running and you have it set to check the A: drive.
3. You have FindFast running. Go to the Control Panel, open FindFast
and delete all
indexes and remove the FindFast icon from the Start folder. Unless you
have an
extraordinary amount of Office files FindFast is of little value to you.
4. You have a shortcut in the start-programs menu pointed to a
nonexistent drive.
5. You have your system set to search for "Search for new floppy disk
drives each
time your computer starts.
Control Panel | System | Performance | File System | Floppy Disk
Uncheck "Search
for new floppy"
Some times just putting any 3.5" disk in the drive and accessing it and
then closing
with the X in the upper right hand corner will clear the constant
accessing.

Jack thanks for the help. #4 ended up doing the trick. I
had a couple of programs pointed to the wrong drive. When
I changed that situation the constant A Drive searching
stop.
