This error, or a similar error, can have a number of different causes:

The most common cause of dw.exe errors is a program called DownloadWare
which
is used to pop-up adverts onto your desktop and comes "free of charge"
with Kazaa.  For more details see

that
users with DownloadWare installed often find they also have Network
Essentials
installed which is yet more adware/spyware.

This might be a good time to download yourself a copy of the free
Ad-Aware 6.0
from Lavasoft (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/) and also
SpyBot
(http://security.kolla.de/) and scan your system for and remove any
other
unwanted parasites, adware and spyware that might be hiding on your PC.
