The card manufacturer should have provided drivers on a floppy or CD; did
you check their web site?
If ME has drivers then you should run the Add New Hardware wizard to see if
ME recognizes the card and installs the drivers.

I am having similar troubles, and the adapter includes
both USB and Firewire 1394 ports. On the MS Knowledge
base, this is identified as a problem, and the cards do
not work, and they say there is a workaround but don't
offer a link to the solution. I am going to try to get
hold of a card with only the USB ports, and give that a
shot. The card works fine on my own Win2K computer, but
uninstalls each time I turn the thing off unless I let it
go to standby. I will give the new card a shot, and if
it works, will come back and let it be known here.

>I have to say, I just got a new PC Cardbus card, with
only 2 USB ports, to replace the one I had, (with which I
struggled for about 3 weeks), which had 2 USB ports and 2
Firewire ports, and it installed without problem, and
both ports are working fine. The other card worked, but
each time I rebooted, the install failed, so that I had
to remove each USB port and controller, then reboot a
second time, at which point the computer reinstalled the
ports, but also installed another printer port, so that
the default printer changed each time the computer
rebooted. Once we discovered that, it was simple to
correct each reboot, but too annoying. Have you tried
another card? I found the one I had trouble with ran
fine on a similar laptop running Windows 2K.
