I was working on an IBM last night and it is running in
MS Dos mode for the drivers, does anyone know how to
switch it back??  It is telling me that one of the pteces
of hardware is using a generic driver

What hardware? - the HD?
what's the EXACT message if you go to Device Manager/Properties?

try booting to Safe Mode
Open Device Manager there
Remove ALL error-flagged devices
Remove ALL instances of duplicated drivers (EXCEPT those in the System
Devices branch - but make a note of them, and post details back)
Reboot to Normal Mode - Windows will reinstall any required drivers,
hopefully reducing your problems.
