I'm running WIN 5.5. I tried to upgrade to WIN 6.0 at
least 6 times and I get the error message unable to
install all the tools for 6.0. Try to upgrade again. Can
anyone tell me what's wrong?
First off - there is no such program/application/operating system as WIN6.0
I take it that you mean Internet Explorer??
A couple of questions before anything else....
1) Have you at any time in the past had Internet Explorer 6 on that PC?
2) have you reinstalled Win ME over itself - resulting in your current
problem?
If the answer to the above is NO - then read on below, if the answer is YES,
then you have 'version soup' and will have to completely remove IE, and
reinstall it (look here for instructions
http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/ReInIE.htm)
To correct problems installing IE 6 in ME..... (with thanks to Zee/Ooops!)
Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - View:
- Select "Show hidden files and folders", click Apply - OK
Create a folder named "Old uninstall".
Go to folder C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/Uninstall Information.
Now Edit - Select All - Cut all files.
Open "Old uninstall" folder and paste the files.
You will now be able to install all the troublesome components.
If everything works as expected, you can delete the "Old Uninstall" folder
and the files you moved.
Good luck,
