I need some help
My PC worked fine with Windows ME until I tried upgrading from a CD Rom to a
CDR/WR. My D drive no longer is recognized and in Device Manager, the Primary
and Secondary IDE Contollers are marked with a yellow X. I have tried
downloading Intel drivers , but there does not seem to be any supported by
Windows ME.
Any help with this would be appreciated

is the CD the D: drive?
If so - is the drive recognised by the BIOS during the POST routine?
Did you remember to set the jumpers correctly for your system? - if the HD
and the CD are on the same cable, then the HD will need to be configured as
the Master, and the CD as Slave.

Thanks for the response, Noel
The Cd is the D Drive and is recognized by BIOS.
The Drive and CD are on separate cables and the jumper is set as a slave.
The CD ROM always worked in this configuration before I upgraded.

If the CD-ROM is on its own cable, then is must be set as Master, not slave.

From Donkeydon
I set the jumper to master on the cdrom and still have the same device
manager problems.
I have looked at a lot of the similar issues posted on message boards and am
still without a solution

OK
boot to Safe Mode
Open device Manager
Remove ALL HD's
Remove ALL CD devices
Remove the Master IDE Controller
(what's left? - make a note!)
Reboot to Normal Mode- windows will reinstall required drivers
See if that fixes it.
