When I went to use my CD-RW drive (F:) I found that it
wasn't working. The drive letter F: was gone from my
computer. Tech support at Compaq told me to remove the
drivers from device manager while in Safe mode which I did
but that didn't solve problem. I also tried a variety of
other methods that they told me, still nothing worked. The
drivers that I removed no longer exist on my computer so
if anybody knows where I can get drivers for a Philips
CDD4801/72 CD-R/RW drive I would appreciate it. Thanks.

No special drivers are required for your CD-RW to be seen in the Device
Manager, they are part of the basic operating system. The problem could
well be a hardware problem and the drive has failed, the cable connecting
it to the motherboard become dislodged or the controller on the
motherboard to which the drive is attached has failed. Trying to
determine which, if any, of these is the answer requires opening the PC's
case and trying alternative layouts for your CD-RW.
