My daughter kept complaining about Windows ME going all
blue while she was at college. None of her techie friends
would touch it because 1)it's WinME and 2)it's on an HP
machine. I laughed and told her to bring it home . . . and
after downloading, updating, installing all the fixes,
patches, updates, etc., I still find that, sure enough, it
randomly produces an error message:  "Error - MSVisual C++
Runtime Library. Program: c:\windows\Explorer.exe.
Abnormal program terminated." You click on 'Okay' and
everything goes blue - no desktop at all.  All you can do
is ctrl-alt-dlt a couple times and reboot.

The one place it seems to consistently happen is at
wunderground.com - the handy, fast weather site . . . so
maybe it has something to do with pesky pop-ups.  But it
doesn't error out on other popups?  And, strangely enough,
if I'm running Microsoft Media Player when explorer.exe
terminates, it keeps running!?  It gets curiouser and
curiouser.

Anyone have an idea what might be the problem.  More
importantly, a solution short of upgrading to XP?  -Jack
