Hi, I have an annoying problem pertaining to an "idle message" that pops up every few minutes stating that "i have been idle for a while, Do you want to stay online"? There are times I am not am my computer when this idle message pops up, and automatically disconnects me from the internet. Is there a registry setting or a modem command to add so I would not get disconnected when the idle message appears. Is it possible to disable this pop up message altogether... I connect through Compuserve with an internal modem(dial up), but they{CS customer service} claim there is nothing that I can do from stopping the idle message from popping up. If I'm not mistaken there was a fix for this, but it was such a long time ago. Any workarounds, fixes or setting changes are greatly appreciated. Thanks... If you are connecting to the internet using a dial-up modem check that you don't have it set to disconnect after a period of inactivity. To check this: Start | Settings | Dial Up Networking. Highlight the "connectoid" that you use to connect to your ISP, right click and select Properties. Open the Dialing tab and you should find towards the bottom a check box labelled "Enable idle disconnect" together with other boxes allowing you to set the idle time after which the system will disconnect, the amount of bandwidth used below which the connection can be considered to be idle and also whether a warning message is displayed before disconnection. Alter these to suit your requirements. Hi Mike, When I try to right click and select properties, nothing happens. It doesn't take me to where I can adjust the mentioned settings. First, click the connectoid to open it, but instead of connecting click the Properties button at the bottom. This should open up the Properties pages after which open the Dialing tab and continue as in my original post. If that doesn't work create a new connectoid (that is create a new entry in Network Connections) as it would appear that your current connectoid might be damaged in some way. Once created open the Dialing tab as before. Thanks Mike,but when I tried to create a new connectoid in the dial up networking, it would not resond to any mouse clicks. Can you offer any other suggestions so the computer doesn't disconnect itself automatically, or help configure that connectoid. I have nothing to add. I've explained where you can find the settings you need to adjust and two ways of accessing them. What you need to do is work out why you cannot open your dial-up networking connection so as to make the required adjustment. Something I can't do from a distance. Sorry about that. Thanks anyway Mike, I understand there are certain situations that you need to be hands-on with, and I appreciate your honesty. I will do some more research on dial up networking and find out why i can't set up the connectoid. > I have nothing to add.
