after my recent downloading of MS critical updates, I got the same problems
as mentioned in posts copied hereunder.  IE crashes upon being called up -
gives various  xxxxx (program) caused error in KRNL386.exe and goes to blue
screen with error:  06: 0000: 00002c47 and must cold boot (actually power
off) to get back going.  I've circumvented by using different browser, but
deep imbedding of IE in operating system eventually causes crashes when I try
to save other files, etc.

If this is a known problem as someone suggests, when will we have a *known
solution* ?

I am running Windows Me with all the latest supplied MS updates.
I started getting the BSoD on a regular basis after I installed the last
updates from MS (KB888113 & KB891711).  BSoD message is ERROR: 06 : 0000 :
00002C47.
I restored the system to before KB888113 & KB891711).  No BSoD.
I installed KB888113.  No BSoD.
I installed KB891711

Known problem.  Unfortunately, you and many other Win9x users will have no
choice but to leave these critical security updates uninstalled until MS
re-releases a re-engineered patch.

I was helping out a lady today with the same Error 06:0000:00002C47 on
her ME Dell Deminsion.  I know she had fresh updates ready to install
earlier today because I saw the MS install icon in the tray.  I no
sooner got home and was called back.  Unfortunately her system restore
was not turned on so can't go back to before the update.  When she
tries to logon to the internet the BSoD starts.  Explorer error windows
keep coming until I ctrl-alt-del to shut it down.  I also wrote down a
KRNL386.exe error. Any idea when Microsoft will have a tooled update?
Will someone post the link here when they do get it posted?

2 options:

a) Uninstall hotfix KB891711 through  Add/Remove Programs.

b) Start > Run > type MSCONFIG and press enter. Click the Startup tab and UNtick the entry referring KB891711.

Restart and the problem should be gone.
