Hi there,
Internet Explorer doesn't show the favicon in address-bar unless you
add the URL/webpage in favorites-list. When you bookmark the
URL/webpage, it will show you the favicon in address-bar as well as in
favorites-list when next time you visit the webpage. But if you clear
the browser cache, it again clears the favicon and next time when you
visit the same webpage, it won't show you favicon. Also, if you visit
any other webpage of the URL you have bookmarked in the favorites, it
won't show the favicon in address-bar. Internet Explorer shows you
the favicon if the webpage is bookmarked in your favorites-list. I've
tried lot of things to resolve this problem, but haven't got any
solution. It would be great if somebody from MS can answer to this
query.
Whenever you access the same webpage in Firefox or Safari, it shows the
favicon in address-bar of that browser, but not in Internet Explorer.
Please help me to get a solution or tell me the reason why we cannot
show the favicon in IE address-bar on first visit or on any other
webpage of the given URL.
e.g.
If you add the following URL in favorites, it will show the favicon
only for that page:
Added in favorites: http://www.xyz.com/abc.html (shows favicon in next
visit)
Not added in favorites: http://www.xyz.com/lmn.html (won't show the
favicon)
thanks in advance,
Kaps

You've already stated the reason for this in your message. IE's favicons
are stored in the Temporary Internet Files (TIF) folder and clearing the
TIF clears the favicons.
If you consider this to be a problem you can download a third party manger
such as FavOrg
(http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Bookmark-Managers/favorg.shtml).
Note, although not strictly relevant for those running IE6 SP1 on Win Me,
how favicons are stored on users' PCs has changed in IE7 although even
here there still appear to be some problems.
