Hi all,
I am hoping there's someone here with some knowledge re:
wireless internet setup for laptops. Given that we're using
a Buffalo WBR-G54 router at home, our idea was to hook up
our two laptops so that we could use internet anywhere in
the house. The first laptop, a Dell, had no problems - we
installed a wireless adapter on it and it connected to the
router fine; it now has internet.
Our second computer, a 2002 HP Pavillion using Windows ME
has had some strange problems. We installed a Netgear
WAB501 adapter and it immediately recognized the router's
presence. The card software shows that there is active
communication between router and the other computer, but
somehow we cannot access the internet.
After calling the technical support people at our ISP,
Buffalo, and Netgear, and after much diagnosis, it was
determined that our DNS was not working properly. The
computer has internet, and the browsers will aslo find a
website based on IP address, but there's anything that uses
domain names is not operational.
I guess we are wondering if anyone has
1) experienced similar DNS troubles with Windows ME
and/or
2) has ever gotten the combination of Buffalo router,
Netgear card, and Windows ME to work properly.
We would very much appreciate some advice.

I've had a similar problem with Linksys gear. I'm running
a 54G router, and connecting a ME machine through a 11.b
wireless adapter. I have visibility to my network, but the
ME machine doesn't see the intrent connection. I can ping
my DNS just fine, but no luck on the internet. Any
suggestions??

I am having the same problems with my Me machine. I have
a Netgear wireless router and USB wireless adapter. I
hardwired the Me machine back to my internet connection
(cable modem) and still have the slow DNS resolution
problem. Prior to trying the wireless connection, the Me
machine worked beautifully as a hardwired machine. Now
it's broken and I don't know where to look to fix it. I
will post another question.
