Every now and then I have to use WINIPCFG to reset my IP
settings. To make it easier I created a shortcut to it on
my desktop (rather than going through the start menu
and "run" every time I need it).
After restarting my computer recently, the shortcut did
not work. I went to start>>run, and got an error message
that WINIPCFG was not found. I searched my drive and
WINIPCFG could not be found anywhere. How could it have
disappeared? Can I avoid it happening again in the future?
Would a virus have done this?
More importantly, can I download it? Please tell me how
and where I can get this file and restore it. I am running
Windows ME.
Thanks

You can extract a new copy of winipcfg.exe from the Win Me cab set.
Winipcfg.exe is contained in WIN_17.CAB of the Win Me cab set and can be
replaced using MSConfig | General | Extract File ... and following the
prompts. The "cab" files are in the Win9x folder on the Win Me CD and/or in a
sub-folder of Windows\Options. See MS KB129605 - "HOW TO: Extract Original
Compressed Windows Files" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=129605) for
details of how to extract files from the cab set. Winipcfg.exe belongs in
your windows folder.
