I am on Windows XP Professional; using Windows Movie
Maker 5.1 (Service Pack1).  I have imported a movie with
a .wmv extention and now want to copy it onto a DVD but
can't. I need to know how to convert this file from a .wmv
to a .vob?
Thankyou,

Your third party DVD burning software will do this.

So long as it accepts wmv files. If not use mm to convert it to a dv-avi
file adn use this.
There is an windowsxp.moviemaker newsgroup for future reference, and the
version number for MM is below the one you give, it should be 2..... or 2.1
if you have sp2 installed. 5.1 is the version number, which is very
confusing for everyone ;)
