My third attempt to see if anyone can help with this
problem?

Windows Me finds my CD/RW but when I load the burning
software it only identifys the burner as a CD player
only.  Have been using WinOnCD 3.7 Power Edition for years
without fail but now I get a recorder interface failed
error when I click to burn a disc.  Have even reinstalling
the software with no difference.

Any suggestions?

How old is the CD/RW?  If more recent than say late '98 have you updated the
CeQuadrat (now Roxio) drivers for WinOnCD?  If not then that is the problem as
WinOnCD can only recognise CDR/Ws that it knows about.  Since WinOnCD is now
at version 6 I somewhat doubt that an updated driver file for the 3.x series
is available, especially so since Roxio initially tried to kill WinOnCD and
only gave in following considerable pressure after v5 was launched.

If that isn't the reason then uninstall and then reinstall WinOnCD since that
is providing the drivers not Win Me.

Mike,

The CD/RW is about 5 years old but rarely used.  The
software (WinOnCD)is the same and the only updates I have
made to Windows was the usual patches and critical
updates.  I know sometimes SP files can corrupt various
Windows files.

Didn't have a problem with anything until about a month
ago.
