Calling all PC Gurus! I am trying to network 2 computers: 1 with 98se and 1 with me. I thought that i would be able to just connect them together with an ethernet cable and run the setup wizard and bam it would work as easy as pie. But no, it's not working out just yet and any of you think you know how to fix this problem... bring it on! Are you using a crossover cable (made especially to connect two PCs) or a straight-through cable? A crossover cable MUST be used to directly connect two PCs. 2. And in any case, not all network cards will work with a crossover cable. > Calling all PC Gurus! > [quoted text clipped - 6 lines] > > Thanks I think if you're also trying to ICS to internet, you may find it easier to use a router. otoh, routers don't normally accommodate dialup (if that would be your case, too) otherwise, if only want a LAN, winme help file has huge procedure for using crossover cable > Calling all PC Gurus! > [quoted text clipped - 6 lines] > > Thanks > Calling all PC Gurus! > [quoted text clipped - 6 lines] > > Thanks Depends on your setup... but the two most common reasons that I've noticed are: - firewall on one or both blocks the other (you have to add the IP address of each computer into the other's Trusted Zone in the firewall configuration). - you're using a regular cat-5 cable (which is made for connecting to a hub/switch/router) instead of a crossover cat-5 cable (made to directly connect to another PC).
