Network and dial up connections in 2000 pro

Windows did not create a local area connection and will
not allow one to be created, anybody have a clue?

Windows 2000 creates a local area connection for each network adapter
installed on the computer.  Open Device Manager (Start | run |
devmgmt.msc) and check for network adapters.
