I am trying to change the nodetype in windows ME from peer-peer to hybrid. I
read that I should be changing a value called NodeType in the NetBT key in
regedit but such a key does not appear in the registry. I tried to create the
key in the location mentioned but it had no effect. Any suggestions?

Kris,

Try [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\MSTCP].
