Not simply a DNS problem.  Won't ping any IP addresses outside the computer
itself.
127.0.0.1 is OK.
The local IP address is OK.
That is all......
Can't ping the DNS servers or any other numerical / IP address....

Have removed TCP/IP
Have removed Windows Communications
... and reinstalled of course.

No improvement.

Any suggestions?

TIA,

Fred

Carey,

Thanks so much for the response!  Good to hear from you.
I had tried one of the other tips, #24.
I'll check out #3 in some detail.

I may have said that the ethernet interface on this computer works just
fine!
It's only the *dialup* that fails to ping anything outside.

Carey,

Ummmm.... it appears that #24 is the "manual" version suggested in #3.  I've
already done that.
Let me ask:
What happens if you reboot where it says "don't reboot"?

Carey,

Well, I did it accidentally and it didn't seem to make a difference.
But then, the problem wasn't solved either!  So, how do I know it didn't
make  difference?

I could imagine that some settings might be lost by rebooting but that
didn't seem to happen.

you may have spyware
Such errors are often caused by spyware - download AdAware from
www.lavasoftusa.com, install, update, and run it to remove spyware, adware,
and other such nasties from your system.

also run the LSPFix from here
