Sure, uninstall the modem.
Thanks. But I haven't installed any modem driver in my machine, but I could
see an entry PPP adapter in winipconfig. Selecting PPP adapter in the
Winipconfig dialog disables the Release button. Any other way to remove the
entry ?

Carey, I tried your suggestion, and I don't think that it does what
Sath wants. The PPP Adapter is still present after un-installing the
modem. What's more, Windows Me tries to re-install the modem the next
time the computer boots. In fact, the PPP Adapter is still there even
after un-installing the modem and physically removing the modem from
the computer. If you've seen different behavior, please post the
details.
Sath, The PPP adapter is created by Dial-Up Networking. Un-installing
Dial-Up Networking (Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Windows
Setup | Communications) will remove it. It will also prevent the
computer from making a dial-up Internet connection.
If you don't mind my asking, why do you want to remove the PPP
adapter?

One of our users, for some reason sees two PPP Adapter entries. I'm trying
to figure out a way myself to remove it, so that I can suggest the step to
our subscriber.

Dial-Up Networking creates a PPP adapter. If you install Virtual
Private Networking, it creates another one. Some versions of the AOL
software install Virtual Private Networking.
It's also possible that software for DSL connections that use PPPoE
(PPP over Ethernet) creates another PPP adapter.
I recommend NOT removing the PPP adapter unless you know exactly whey
it's there and are sure that removing it won't disable any software.
