Hello,
I have a small network that currently has 4 computers on it. One is a
Windows ME machine and the other three are Windows XP. The ME computer
has a folder on the harddrive that is shared and all three of the XP
machines can access this folders. There is also a printer connected
that all machines can access through a Netgear print server.
I just added a new fourth XP machine and I can not for the life of me
get it to find the shared folder on the ME. This fourth machine can
access the internet through the network as well as the printer and it
can ping the ME computer, but I can not get it to find the shared
folder or map a network drive to the folder or anything. I have tried
most of the suggested solutions that I could find, but none of them
seemed to help.
The network is pretty basic. I have an ADSL modem connected to a
Linksys router and all the machines along with the printer are also
connected to the Linksys router.
If anyone has any great suggestions for me, I'm open to trying them.
But, please give fairly explicit directions as I'm only semi-familiar
with all of this stuff (i.e. please specify how to get to locations to
make changes, etc.).
Thanks in advance for any help.
Note, I've gone through the windows networking help step-by-step and
read many posts and websites on line. I've tried changing the NetBios
over TCP/IP settings, checked that I don't have any extra protocols
running on the machines.
One other thing, since I have 3 other XP machines working fine with the
ME machine, I'm assuming that something needs to be corrected on the
new XP machine and not the ME machine. I am also reluctant to do too
much with ME machine for fear of messing up the other computers
connections.
Cheers.
