So the router is broken? Ah, unfortunate. And probably out of the question
to buy a replacement. There are at least three models that I know of, from
D-Link, Netgear, and SMC, which support a dial-up modem.

I don't use Windows XP, but I believe it should similarly situated, within
the Properties for File and Printer sharing. In any case, I would expect
that disabling the Windows ME browsemaster may work. However, with the
Windows ME comptuer hosting the ICS connection, I have no experience to say
if that is so, or what.
If things are still broken, maybe setting the Windows ME browsemast to be
always on is a possibility, instead; while disabling it on the Windows XP
computer.

The router and the com port to the modem still works on the D-Link 713p
(confirmed by a wireless laptop). That is why I thought I could still use
it purely as a wireless device only - as a "cheap" alternative. Even if I
buy two wireless cards for the 2 computers, I would save about $50 to $80
over a brand new router that supports dialup. Speed of file sharing between
my computers is not critical. And I'd probably never notice any significant
performace problem with the 713p's wireless "speed" over a dialup.

I checked the Browser Master status on the XP. It's set to automatic.
Always was. I never played with XP's services before. Meanwhile... I reset
the WinME's Browser back to automatic..

I have excatly the same problem on a network linked to a Draytek router with
a Netgear Rangemax WPN802 Wireless Access Point and WPN511 PCMCIA card..
I can access the XP machine fine from ME laptop, but not the other way
round. machine. If I switch to using a wired network connection with a
D-Link DFE-650 card it works fine.
I have now managed to get to see the ME laptop from the XP machine by much
messing around with settings and changing the logon to using Windows Logon,
but cannot access any files, just as File and Printer sharing was not enabled
(it is though).
I have tried the Browser Master settings but without any success. It seems
like it is a problem with the wireless connection in some way. Any other
suggestions??
