I am attempting to connect a this LM printer to an HP
Pavilion with MS Me can't get the printer to communicate
with the computer or the computer to communicate with the
printer.

I keep getting a "no communication" message when I attempt
to print.

I have checked what seems to be all of the setup and
system configuration possibilities and have been through
the LM support desk two or 3 times (at least 2 hours of
checking this and checking that) and still can't get the
problem resolved.

I even took the first printer back and got an entirely new
unit.

I have replaced the USB cable, relocated the power from a
surge protected cicuit to a wall outlet.

I have uninstalled, reinstalled software, started and
retarted the computer and still haven't been able to get
resolution.

I even took the printer and the computer to Best Buy to
see if they could help. Spent an hour with their "tech"
who told me to take the computer home and do a system
restore. I thought I had to use the recovery disks to do a
system restore. I didn't know (and the BB "Tech" must not
have known either) that Me has a restore command
under "Accessories" that doesn't require the recovery
disks.

That's the second problem - The Me Restore process won't
initiate. I get a message saying "restoration is in
progress do not open or close any files until restoration
has completed." And another message that say "this may
take a few minutes". After half an hour nothing had
havppen. When I hit enter I got a message saying the it
couldn't restore to the date I picked. I tried 2 or 3
other dates and got the same results. No results.

I am about ready to give up.
At this point any suggestions (short of shooting both the
printer and PC) would be appreciated.
I can be emailed directly jc77082 at hotmail.
Thanks,
Jim

Questions asked in newsgroups get answered here - personal service comes at
very reasonable rates!<g>

I'll leave the Lexmark problem to others (because I might get irate about
their cr%ppy printers and worse drivers<g>)

Your problem with System Restore......

It's possible that you haven't installed the System Restore Patch - without
which any current restore points are just space fillers.
To check this, look for the file C:\Windows\System\SMGR.DLL - r-click on the
file, and select Properties.
What's the version number? - if it's v4.90.0.3003 then you have installed
the patch, and we have to look elsewhere for the problem
if it's v4.90.0.2533, then you need to install the patch.

To install the patch, either visit Windows Update, or go here, and download
the patch for offline install
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q290700
Run the installer, and windows should reset System Restore at the same time,
clearing your old restore points (which wouldn't have worked, anyhow), and
creating a single new one.
You should then reset the maximum allocation for SR by going to the
adjustment slider at System Properties | Performance | File System | Hard
Disk - most people find that 200-400MB is quite sufficient for most
purposes, unless installing/uninstalling large applications such as Office.
