Lexmark Z32: "Printer not Ready..."

Hello,

One of the least desirable outcomes of partitioning,
formatting and installing recently has been the loss of a
printer - which was running, prior to this, as well as it
had from the beginning.

Having had much advice from Lexmark and followed it to no
avail; there now seems to be silence.

I have used the Windows trouble-shooter. And read the KB
article on printer problems, down to the Run command.

Connections are good. The software disc well-used over
three years, except for the fact that Me now freezes with
the download screen showing instant calendars being
installed.

I was able to create floppies as offered on that screen
but on several occasions I have waited for up to 10 mins.
for a completion without that happening. All the software
appears to be installed. I have uninstalled and re-
installed several times.

Device Manager has the correct port and reports all in
order.

I have had Windows Wizard run the CD with an identical
result. Printer not Ready. Surely it cannot be coincidence
that this failure followed the PF and I.

Ideas please.

Thanks.

Ben.

Ben
Try downloading updated drivers from LexMark <spit> and using them -
IMO LexMark are the WORST writers of driver software that ever hit this
planet - I just wish they'd go back where they came from.
(The printers aren't much better either<g>)

Mornig/Afternoon Noel, I got up for Wimbledon and find
that the Welsh weather has taken over.

I love LexMark - well my version prints beaufilly. Have
tried the new drivers. It goes to a genius of a local
small town guy on Tuesday, as LexMark have suggested
trying it on a second comp. If it has failed, well I shall
adopt your attititude towards it. That said I require from
you advice on a modest cost one, say to 100 Pounds
Stirling, and, once again proving how tractable I am, I
shall purse you recommendation. <humble? my fanny> just
wisely recognising your store of know-how is almost
unlimited.

Cheers, Noel.

Ben.

Ben - I'm the last person to advise on home printers! - So long as you stay
away from LM , though, you shouldn't go too far wrong.
My prejudices are showing again<g> - perhaps I should shut up for a change.

Hello Noel,

I have a sensible printer "Mommy" (see above) helping out
so your role is now ended. <bg>

Noel you are incorrigible. In fact I would liken you to a
knight in armour somewhat glazed-over; whose thoughts, on
leading a thirsty damsel in distress to a pond would be
roaming in directions other with regard to her
satisfaction. And yet I see you soaking wet and clanking
madly - and she smiling wickedly!

So there.

Hello Cari,

I love him too but I would never wish him to know it! <bg>

My printer, the excellent and most artistic of critters,
and a 'family' member to boot, is recovered. The problem?
An old man's rapidly declining eyesight which failed to
see a pin on a contacter-plug which was invisible by means
of being not present.

Vive Lexmark. And my thanks - for all who do their level
best to keep the rest of us up and running.

Ben.

Hardware failure huh? <bg>

At least you're sorted, Ben - and at last! (how long has it taken to get you
over the reinstall hurdle, now? - be honest!<G>)

Excellent news!  If sometime in the future you are contemplating the
purchase of a new printer, you might want to see:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3626373.stm

Lexmark printers aren't quite as economical as they may first appear!

Hello Cari,

I am an avid follower of all the BBC offers. It is a
little naive perhaps, to think there are bargains in the
world of the 'new' anything. One's experience teaches, and
my experience of Lexmark, as a company offering service
for it's product, is unparalleled.

I shall go, for a first visit, to your website.

Best wishes.

Ben.

You made my day.... can I have one of the babies if the mating is
successful!  I promise to raise it properly.  I'm a really good printer
Mommy, I have three already (although they are Canons) and they're really
good on my network.

Actually, being more sensible, the first thing I would try is another
printer cable, you can probably borrow one from a friend.  Are you trying to
connect via USB or LPT?

Hello Cari,

That response was... unexpected and delightful. I thought
along similar lines when I wrote mine!

I hope the failure is merely co-incidental, following as
it did to my first format and install! I have a great test
page and alignment printout dated 19th.June. It connects
to LPT1(parallel?) port. I may be able to find someone
with an identical cable, but if not, I plan on taking it
into a gem of a printer 'Daddy' in a local store.
Will post if I find a happy solution, and au contraire, I
guess, too. I do 'love' all my computing equipment - when
it behaves!

Thanks, Cari.
