The CD that comes with the new Dell 720 printer doesn't work with Windows ME
operating system.  Where can I download a Dell 720 printer driver that works
with ME?

If Dell does not have one, then it's unlikely that any driver will work.

It's not supposed to work with WindowsME.  Read the system requirements on
the box before you open it.... it says for Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
Dell are not going to write any drivers for any Windows9x operating systems.

I'd return it to Dell and get something that will work in WinME.  ALWAYS
check before you buy.

It's a rebadged Lexmark.

bit of googling came up with it's a Lexmark Z11, so the drivers will work.

Since PnP will still show it as a Dell 720 instead of a Lexmark Z11, you
may have to fiddle the installation's .inf file if it refuses to install.

I suspect life isn't that simple Rick.  For example I believe that Dell
have customised the printer so that it isn't able to use standard Lexmark
cartridges.

Yeah I was reading some of that, too.... I've had to kludge a few
install programs for various reasons; you think the driver might have
something in it as well ? might have to do something weird like making
sure the printer is off while booting or something like that.

Dunno Rick,

If anyone knows Cari will, for myself I wouldn't touch a Lexmark by any
name even if paid handsomely - put it down to prejudice.  :-)

Personally, I preferred the <something> - at least then you had a chance of
making it work properly!<g>
