Tried to upgrade OS from Windows ME to XP Home Edition.
During setup, the program stops/stalls halfway
at "Preparing Installation".  After pressing "Esc" key to
exit Setup, the program tells setup stop either because I
canceled installation (which I didn't) or there was some
type of internal error (but does not tell me anything
about the specific error).  Help--any suggestions?

You did cancel when you pressed ESC.

The install program does look like it hangs at "preparing installation", but
you may have to be patient and wait a while. On my previouse machine
(466MHZ) the pause was about 8 minutes.

Thanks for your speedy reply...darkrats

I've tried to install XP on three occasions.  The first
time it hanged/stalled for about one hour.  The second and
third times the pause was overnight (about 8-9 hours).
This is on a 1.2 GHZ machine with 512MB/PC2100 of memory.

Any other avenues that I can try???
