My system has been rather unstable for quite some time;
crashing frequently.  Tonight while installing another
printer it locked up.  I needed to use CTRL-ALT-DEL to
get it to reboot.  When it rebooted, I got a message
stating the was an error loading explorer.exe and that I
will have to reinstall Windows.  YIKES!! if I do that I
will loose everything on the hard drive, including all my
installed programs and records..........
Is there a way to just reinstall explorer.exe?

Probably not - but you should still be able to use System Restore to get
back to a time when you could boot - then fix the problems before attempting
the upgrade again!

If you really need to reinstall Windows, then look here for instructions on
how to do it without losing data (but backing up first is ALWAYS a good
idea!)

Or try a "dirty" install of ME from the windows file:

At the DOS prompt  --  C:\Windows\Options\CABS\Setup <enter>
This "over" installs the OS rather than reinstalls the OS.

I have used this without losing any files except folder
view settings and network settings.

After this you might want to save all files of import and
then reinstall ME for stability.
