I accidentally selected "Windows 2000" instead of "Windows
ME" when installing some software included with my Sony
mini-CD player and now I get the following error message
any time I open Internet Explorer or Explorer:

"Explorer has caused an error in VX2.DLL.  Explorer will
now close."

I've already tried re-installing ME, but the problem does
not go away.  Any other ideas besides format and reinstall?

Thanks in advance

You have a virus/spyware hijack - update your virus scanner and run a full
system scan of all files.
download the Stinger from here and run it to make sure that A-V-disabling
worms are not present on your PC
http://download.nai.com/products/mcafee-avert/stinger.exe
download AdAware from www.lavasoftusa.com, install, update, and run it to
remove spyware, adware,
and other such nasties from your system.
