Unable to install USB Card Reader

Please, could any one help me with my problem:

I am trying to install USB SanDisk ImageMate card reader on Windows ME.
The computer is a SONY PCG-9401 laptop. I used SanDisk driver CDisk 5.04.
The system rejects the driver.
I then tried to install POI card reader - same results.
I also tested both devices on another computer running Widows ME - same results.

Both card readers working fine on XP computer.

Any inputs will be greatly appreciated.
It would be great if I could run the program on Windows XP, but the CAD I have must include security dangle which is inserted between computer and the printer. The XP system will not accept the dangle with its buried code number
