I have a compaq 4090US and my floppy drive was not
plugged in and i did not know this.I wrote to compaq and
told them my A drive wasn't working, and they sent me
instructions to reinstall Windows ME from my cabs folder
(set up .exe).After clicking in setup it told me i didn't
have enough conventional memory.I double clicked on it
anyway and it began to set up.IT stops at a blue error
screen that says "there is a problem with a system
file".Windows might not be able to run correctly.VxD
dynamic link call ; NTKERN(01)+0000331E
TO "MTRR ",service 2.Yes to continue ,No to quit.No
shuts down the computer,Yes takes me to the user license
agreement. It asks for my name and no matter what i type
it doesn't work. This is in the box that says Windows ME
addition setup wizard. When i put my user name and click
next it says "can not verify end user license
agreement, setup will now close",and then i have to
restart the computer and it takes me right back to either
of these two error screens.Another error box that come up
says " invalid VxD dynamic link call to device # 4A
service 74.Windows configuration is invalid run setup
again, which i do but i get the same errors.I get as far
as that license agreement but it will not take my
name.Ihaven't backed up my computer and i do not want to
lose anything. However i am able to get into safe mode.
Thanks
Kathy

You say you can get into Safe Mode, so it *might* be worth try to run System
Restore back to the time /date BEFORE you first started to try to re-install
WinMe.
When booting into Safe Mode process completes, it should settle with the
Help Centre Console. You will see the System Restore option half-way down
the page.
