I ran windows update for critical updates and after
restarting my windows was opening only in safe mode. I
tried to run the system restore for a previous date but
it was giving me errors. so finally I started to run a
factory restore for win.
BUT the restore is not working at all. after booting the
sytem from restore Cd (which came with my pc) the process
runs for a few min and just stops at current process 2%.
I have waited for it to move further even for few hrs but
no change. So I tried to check the restore status by
running win again in safe mode. but when I run pc without
the cd, it gives me message Operating system not found
I dont know what to do. I am not able to run the OS and
even not able to restore back. Do I have a choice other
than buying another windows and installing it new.
Pls advice urgently

Since this appears to be a problem with an OEM System Recovery option - and
not System Restore from Windows - you need to at least tell us which OEM
(Dell/Gateway/HP/etc), and preferably the model number.
You would however be netter off asking in the manufacturer's own forums, or
their helpline, as this type of scenario is specific to their own machines,
and not supported by MS - and the people in these NG's may not have similar
machines to test with.

You need to provide far more information such as the make and model of PC
since the recovery CD you are using will be specific to the make and model
of your PC having been created by the computer manufacturer and not
Microsoft. Depending on the type of recovery CD involved it is quite
possible that the act of returning your PC to the state it was in when
delivered from the factory will mean that your hard disk was wiped of its
contents and that your only way forward is to try and complete the factory
restore.
No one will be able to help you without more information and you might
find it better to contact the computer manufacturer for support on this
occasion.
