write protect error writing drive c

I was trying to get an update for Windows ME. An error
occured and the Update never finished. I tried to restore
to a previous checkpoint and now I get the error
message "write protect error writing drive c". I even
tried to delete the partitions and recreate a new one but
the system would not allow it. Can anyone help.
