I downloaded and installed several security updates from
the Microsoft website and now I get error messages stating
that Windows cannot access the specified device, path or
files,It further states that I may not have the
appropriate permissions for this. I get this message
whenever I try to access the My Computer system properties
so I can reactivate the system restore function. I get
this either from rightclicking on My Computer or opening
from the Control Panel. I also get this if I try to open
Display Properties from either rightclicking the desktop
or from the Control Panel. Any help on what i can do to
fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Which Norton application did you have running during the install?

Hi Noel, I don't have any Norton products on my PC. I use
AVG Antivirus which was a free download and which was
running at the time, apparently not a good thing. Is there
anything I can do to get back some control of my system?

AVG has never caused a problem for me, in either ME or XP - it's usually NAV
that causes this type of problem.

Try using System Restore from a Command Prompt - look here for details
