System restore created an archive of a virus, which
originally crashed explorer and disabled my virus
protection and installed itself. Unfortunately, it is
resident in my restore archive, even though My anti-virus
program cleansed it from my system. The antivirus program
detects the virus in the archive only, and I do not know
how to remove/delete the archive to prevent it from
reinstalling as a result of a restore. Any suggestions?

There's no need to worry about viruses in the _Restore archive - they are
perfectly safe there and can cause no harm to your PC, unless you're
unfortunate enough to use System Restore to go back to a time during which
you were infected.
Having said that - look here
