I cannot delete TIF ....( there  are 128 entries ,they call themself
"coockie".........). I have booted from startup disk (minimal boot)  and in
cd/windows i have typed >
smartdrv
deltree tempor~1
deltree history
deltree temp

It should be the right procedure, isn't it ?
Thanks in advance, lando .

Cookies aren't stored in the Temporary Internet Files but rather in their own
folder, by default windows\cookies.  They are visible in TIF when using
Windows Explorer due to a bit of "windows magic".  You can either manually
delete them from either TIF or the cookies folder or use the provided GUI -
Control Panel | Internet Options | General and click "Delete Cookies".

He's running OE 5.5 Mike so he won't have the delete cookies option in
Internet Options.

Thanks Joan,
I'm so used to posters using the CDO interface rather than a newsreader I
didn't think to check in this case.  My bad.  :-(  Maybe this would be a good
time for Lando to upgrade to IE6 SP1.

Cheers,

LOL
I've just migrated all my WinMe NG's to XP which is where I'm spending most
of my time now, so I already have #6 in there <vbg>
Hope you've recovered from your visit to Will <g>

I'm fine with IE 5.5 SP2 ,just to be uptodate I could install IE 6 (that is
ready in MS update site).
1) I see that the istallation is ONLINE ( last year I installed IE 5.5 SP2
offline and booted in safe mode !).
2) If I had to uninstall it ,I'd have my IE5.5 back (and working !) ?
3) Will be inherited  my settings in Internet Options ?
4) I have Sun Java plug-in installed .I don't know how it is linked to IE
( I see an entry in IE Options...
but is only this.........?) Have I to reinstall java ?
5) With IE 6 does change also OE ( Have to install Account and all other
stuff?) ?
6) At the beginning, with IE6, will I have to face many new things that I
don't know and have troubles ?
About step 4 in Java NG say to try.........Of course I knew this!

Thanks a lot in advance,Lando.

Installing IE6 SP1 should be straight forward and retain all your existing
settings.  Whether you choose to do so has to be your choice but you might
want to take into account that IE5.5 won't be supported after the end of this
year.  If you choose to upgrade I would install from a full download rather
than just the setup program on the Windows Update site.  You can either
download it all yourself using the setup program and then install "off-line"
or you might be able to find a copy on a CD on the cover of a magazine.

Then I can : 1)have the setup program (downloaded from Windows Update ?).
2) With the setup program >>>> download IE SP1.
3)Install offline.

Yes

Yes

Yes, although I would strongly recommend that you also make sure that a)
system restore is working before making the upgrade, and b) make a manual
checkpoint prior to starting the upgrade.  The easiest way to check these is
to create a shortcut on your desktop.  Make a manual checkpoint.  Delete the
shortcut.  Restore your system to the manual checkpoint and check that the
shortcut was restored.  Sort out any problems before proceeding to installing
IE6/OE6.
