Whenever I click Run from Startup with 'msconfig' in the
box, I receive the following message prior to msconfig
screen:

"System Configuration Utility

Environment variables were found in the legacy files
AUTOEXEC.BAT and/or CONFIG.SYS and the variables were
moved to the Windows Registry."

I don't know how serious this is and all efforts to clear
this message fail.  Please help this novice......

Don't worry about that message.  All it means is that you have an application
or driver that is updating the your autoexec.bat or rarely config.sys each
time the driver loads or the application runs.  Normally this change is
transferred to the registry you shutdown your PC but also happens when you
open MSConfig. Some Creative SB sound card drivers can do this as can some AV
programs.  I have the same "problem" here with a PC running Win Me that has a
Creative/Ensoniq PCI 128 sound card.

For more details see MS KB262786 - "Message Received When You Start the System
Configuration Utility: "Environment Variables Were Moved to Windows Registry"
