I installed Norton 2004 system works, ran scandisk/defrag
and my dsl modem couldn't ping out or connect to any
browser. Finally ended up restoring a register 1 day prior
to scan/defrag. Everything worked fine until reinstall of
Norton system works. Now I can't connect to cdmrom
drives. I tried uninstalling Norton again. I noticed in
Control panel systems for the ide's for the cdroms on the
General tab it says This device is either not present, not
working properly, or does not have all the drivers
installed. (Code 10.) Try upgrading the device drivers for
this device. But when I update the drivers I get a
compatability issue with config.sys file and autoexec.bat
file. Does anyone know what can be done to fix this
problem?? HELP. Everything looks fine in the setup mode.

I think you have already told us the cause of your problem, installing Norton
2004. I would suggest that you solve your problem by uninstalling Norton and
taking it back to the store where you bought it and asking for your money back
on the grounds that it is not suitable for the purpose for which you purchased
it.
If you feel this is somewhat harsh, read some of the many messages in these
newsgroups where you will find the root cause of the users' problems was the
installation of one or other of the Norton stable of products.
