Im having trouble defragmenting the hard disk, defrag
starts and hangs there. If i try the disc scan it starts
and after a while a windows pops up to tell me there are
other programs runnining- but I dont see any. can anybody
help ?

Boot into Safe Mode and run defrag from there.  This should minimise the
number of background applications you have running.  You may also want to
disable your AV application whilst running defrag.

Use ScanDefrag as a scheduled task in Normal Mode,
run it at night while you sleep.

If you have a problem, switch to Restrictive Mode like
it says in the ReadMe.
