That's essential

Have you fixed this or not?

What was the file extension of the file?  Is it one that is monitored by
SR?

Why?  For what purpose?

> / Win/System still 490.0.3003;

Good, that means that system file protection is working.  You should NOT
be able to delete smgr.dll.

So in summary your problems are:
a) No automatic checkpoints?
b) Unnamed file with unknown extension not restored.  However if not a
file with a monitored extension then this would be normal.
c) No September check points.  Not a problem as they have probably been
discarded either because of installing the 290700 update or because they
have been dropped as newer checkpoints have been created.  How much space
have you allocated to the restore archive?  How big is the C:\_RESTORE
folder?  To check this you will have to enable the viewing of not only
hidden files but also hidden system files when using Explorer (Tools |
Folder Options | View and check the box "Show hidden files and folders"
and UNcheck the box "Hide protected operating system files".

Depending on your answers to b) and c) someone should be able to help
including getting your system to create automatic system checkpoints a).

I'm sorry if I have misunderstood your posting but it might have helped
those trying to follow your post if you had used some punctuation and line
breaks. <vbg>

10Thanks, Mike. Still "No Restore" capability/"No Check Points". First, poor
punctuation mess probably because I CANNOT START a thread with (up-to-date)
IE6 in this Forum BUT I CAN Reply; I had to use Firefox to Post (go figure).
The Desktop file I couldn't Restore was [.txt] from WordPad; I indicated
prior 600 MB for Restore allotment; I DID NOT delete [ smgr.dll ]. I deleted
the WordPad [.txt] file to Test Restore. [smgr.dll] is correct ver 490.0.3003
/ Update from 290700 dnload shows "Successful". Belarc report looks OK
against MS List. Still get NO ERROR Messages. Want Restore Help first but
2nd: Why CAN'T I Start New Forum Thread from IE6 BUT I CAN Reply? Thanks
again!

Craig,

I'm sorry but am unable to read your post.  If you want help from me at
least you need to post in a legible format, use punctuation and
occasionally start a new line/paragraph.  Hopefully someone with more
patience will decode your post and help you with whatever problem it is
you are having.
