All of these don't load.
When i double click on them,.. the monitor acts as if it's trying to
load.. hangs for about 3 or 4 seconds(with only the wallpaper in
sight) then goes back to whatever I'm using(AOL, Photoshop..etc.)
My friend said it sounded like a corrupt *.Dll.. however, to which
dll or what the actual problem is.. i have no clue
I can download and i know very very basic dos functions so, i've been
able to tap into *.exe files if i download them.. but i'm clueless to
why I cannot manually access my files through any of the above.
At first.. i thought it was a a virus, which my norton cannot detect.
THis problem first started when I connected to the internet via DSL
connection at my cousin's.(i connect dial-up.)
The oddest thing happened.. as after something booted me offline from
the dsl connection(i connected through AOL,).. once i rebooted.. My
modem connection on AOL changed from Modem on Com 1.. to Modem on Com
3--which I never really understood why. It took the longest time to
figure out why i couldn't even connect via dial up, as well.
Anyways, any help would be great! I can connect via phone.. but can't
open win explorer/Internet Explorer/my control panel!!!

You may have a virus/spyware hijack
download the Stinger from here and run it to make sure that A-V-disabling
viruses are not present on your PC
http://download.nai.com/products/mcafee-avert/stinger.exe
- update your virus scanner and run a full system scan of all files.
Reboot to Safe Mode and run CWShredder - to remove variants of the
CoolWebSearch hijacker.

Use CWShredder, the removal tool:

download AdAware from www.lavasoftusa.com, install, update, and run it to
remove spyware, adware,
and other such nasties from your system.

That's a waste of time if the machine is already infected!

Tha's because NAV is a useless AV program ... first you should
ascertain whether the system is infected or not. Download a
standalone AV tool since IE will not function :
Stinger
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/
This will scan for the most recent viruses and, hopefully, will
enable you to do a full system scan with NAV in Safe Mode by
disinfecting the system.
A much more comprehensive AV tool is Sysclean. This will throughly
scan the system and take a considerable amount of time. BUT, it's a
great tool :
Sysclean Package
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp
Click the readme sysclean.txt link to learn how to run it. Download
the latest pattern file from here :
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/pattern.asp
Create a folder on the root drive, usually C:\ , and name it
Sysclean. Move sysclean.com to it. Extract lpt251.zip to that
folder. Boot to Safe Mode and run Sysclean.
This *should* at least, enable you to run IE, WE, and Control Panel.
Once you've determined that the system is free of malware, have it
scanned for the presence of ad | spyware here :
http://www.auditmypc.com/patch-management-software/patch-management-software-.asp
For assistance with ad|spyware, go here :
http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm
The failure of the Control Panel to open *may* be due to a damaged
.cpl file as a result of malware being present :
