Group,

I am having a tough time with Windows runtime error 226.  When I click on
any link that requires opening a new window, this message appears. When I
click on OK, it comes up again, sometimes several times.  Eventually, after
clicking OK a few times, the window opens.

What is causing this and how can I fix it?

I hope to not use system restore back in time, since I have too much data
and too many settings to change.

I have tried a software "Registry Mechanic" by PC Tools but this has not
worked.

TIA

Are you sure it's 226?    Best (nearest) I can find in the KB is 216.

Error Message: Runtime Error 216

and

Mart,

I think I may have fixed it----

I re-installed QuickTime with an updated version, and also purged my
password lists (.prl files), re-booted and have not had the problem since---

Maybe we should make a note of this, since so much trouble finding solutions

Ferdy, I'm pleased that you've managed to fix things - thanks for the
feedback.

Not too sure though, why (if) your password lists might have affected it
(BTW - did you really mean .prl - or .pwl?)

What made you 'suspect' QT, in that you found the need to re-install/update
it?

My *guess* is that 'runtime error 226' is not specific to any one particular
'fault' but can result from a combination of different (unrelated)
conditions in different applications - in your case (hopefully) a bad QT
installation.

Anyway, lets hope all is now running sweetly and you can set a new SR point
as a 'line in the sand' to work from for the future. It's a far too useful
tool to not utilize to it's full potential when installing/changing things.
Good luck.

Not saying this will work but probably can't hurt...

go to Start/Settings/ControlPanel/AddRemovePrograms...

select Internet Explorer and choose Fix.
