Is it possible to have search results displayed by date in descending order ?
My results appear to display randomly as far as the date posted goes.
Thanks

Search Results using which tool in which application?  If you are perhaps
referring to the lame and lamentable web interface to these newsgroups may
I recommend and suggest to you that you use instead a proper news client
which would then allow you to sort your search results to suit your
requirements.  Many suitable news clients exist and you already have at
least one installed on your PC - Outlook Express.  Others include Agent
and XNews.

Using an NNTP Newsreader
(http://www.microsoft.com/communities/guide/nntpnews.mspx).

Yes am referring to here in the MS communities newsgroups. I don't have
outlook or express, I do have agent, it took me a while to locate where these
groups are listed.

You don't have Outlook Express?  I thought you were using a Microsoft
operating system?  All versions since Win98 have included Outlook Express
and that includes Win Me.

What happens if you copy the link below into Internet Explorer?

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsme.systemtools

This should launch your default news client (usually Outlook Express) and
open it in the Windows Me SystemTools newsgroup.  If you had been using a
news client you would have been able to click the link I posted but links
such as this usually don't work in the web interface.

I think (but am not sure) that Forte Agent has a "Set as Default
Newsreader" Option.

Fair enough.  For some reason I missed the OP's comment that he had Agent
and was focussing instead on his comment that he didn't have Outlook
Express installed.  As least if he clicks the link he'll be able to see
which is any is set up as his default news client.  I'm still using Agent
1.93 for some of my news work together with NewsBin Pro when working with
binaries but am thinking of moving to the new Agent 3 once released as it
looks like it will have a couple of nice features I've been looking for
some time.

small print lowercase, missed it myself the first time, but I thought "I
don't have OE" looked weird.

What's wrong with it <g> it's what I'm using at the moment.

(on my machine at least) it doesn't handle threads with large (over
1000ish) post counts very well at all. A group that I normally audit and
occasionally post in had a thread with I think 3000 posts and was taking
several minutes for TBird to open the group each time.  And currently...
same group has another one that's around 1500 or so and is starting to
act sluggish (they tend to be a bit long-winded over there)

Right, I don't have that problem as I never keep my posts longer than a
couple of days so my groups never seem to get above a 1000.
Mind you at the moment I only have the Microsoft groups, still trying to
sort out newsgroups with my new ISP, I've just lost a couple because of
the Berlin site going paid <g>

Yes, no outlook or outlook express. Yes WinMe but not MS,
Hewlett-Packard (unfortunately), news client = Agent 1.93
(ver 3 coming ?), Mail client = Netscape Messenger 4.68.
Thanks for suggesting Agent as I am able to sort posts by
date/time which I find helpful but moreso, it eliminates
those long waits between screen changes when using a
browser. I'm assuming there is no way to send a "yes this
post was helpful" ack from agent huh ?
Thanks

Could you please explain how you have Win Me yet no Outlook Express or did
you remove it manually since it is part of the operating system.  Not that
I am suggesting that you should be using OE instead of Agent which I also
use (also v1.93) as well as NewsBin Pro.

Correct.  Remember also that only those using the web interface can see
those comments which are not part of the nntp protocol but instead a
non-standard addition by Microsoft to their web interface.

Cheers.
