My computer keeps freezing and when I do a control alt del I see that the
program MSGSRV32 (not responding).  If  I end this it unfreezes for a while
and will do the same again. Any suggestions?

MSGSRV32 not responding:

Your PC is having problem communicating with your hardware.  What changes
did you make to your system (hardware, drivers or application) just prior
to this problem developing? Try booting to Safe Mode and then either undo
those changes or use System Restore to return your system to the state it
was in before this problem started, however only use system restore if you
made those changes in the last few days, a week ago at most.

Look at your hardware, especially drivers.  When you see that msgsrv32 is
not responding this is normally because it is waiting for a response from
a driver that has possibly crashed. Msgsrv32 is just the messenger, the
problem nearly always lies elsewhere.

See MS KB Q138708 - "Function of the Windows 32-Bit Message Server"

The only thing I have added lately that I can remember is Zonealarm.  Could
that do it?
For some reason the restores are not there.

Possibly although I've never had ZA Pro cause a msgsrv32 error here on Win
Me although I've had the odd vsmon error on boot up.  How long has this
been happening?  Provided the problem only started in the last few days
does using system restore solve the problem?

It has been happening the last week or so.  I am not able to restore because
the restore was turned off in the control panel, for some reason.
any suggestions?

Sorry but I don't really have anything to add to my original post.  You'll
have to do the hard work :-( and eliminate in turn each new driver or
application that you have installed since the problem began starting with
Zone Alarm.

Best of luck,

When it happens, take a look at the ZA log (or screen) to see if any
outgoing attempts have been blocked near to that time.

May as well run a scanreg/fix from a command prompt as well (can't hurt).
