I tried to do a system restore because an installation of an upgrage to
windows Media Player 9 did not finish properly.  Didnt completely install,
and because it was not installed I could not uninstall it.  Anyway now I
have a bigger problem.
The system restore got about 3/4 of the way thru and has just been stuck at
the point for 12 1/2 hours now.  What at this point should I do?  Should I
"end the task"
thanks

Donna,

After that length of time I'd end task, reboot and see what state your
system is in.  How far back in time were you trying to restore?  If only a
couple of day or so then try restoring back to the checkpoint prior to the
one that is giving problems.  If however you are trying to restore your
system back more than a few days you might well have problems that could
take some work to fix.

I was just trying to restore to Friday, so it was a couple of days.
I ended the task and rebooted. Message Restoration was unsuccessful came up.
There are no earlier restore points for the whole month so I guess I cannot
restore to solve this issue.
Any suggestions on how to resolve the issue where Media player 9 did not
complete the installation, so I now cant install or uninstall it?  (I've
tried the add/remove programs and it does show up in there. I uninstalled
it, but the icon still shows on the quick task bar and desktop. I then had
tried installing it again, but still is not completing the installation)

Donna,

May I suggest you post to a newsgroup supporting WMP9 and explain the
problems you are having in installing it.  For example the newsgroup
microsoft.public.windowsmedia.player on the msnews.microsoft.com
newsserver.  I note though that you are using the web interface to these
newsgroups so you will have to try navigating to that newsgroup through
the menu tree.

Righto
will do.
I'm using outlook express and the "Newsgroups" .. not the web interface
though.
I did find the newsgroup by looking under "newsgroups" and subscribing.
thanks

As I see.  I was confused because you've chosen to use
anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com which is the usual fingerprint of
those using the web interface.
