Help and Support

I recently attempted to open System Information and received the error
message 'The initialization of the Help Centre failed. Please report the
following error number to Microsoft Support: 2147143678'.
I now get the same message whenever I attempt to access Help and Support.
I have tried researching the problem on the internet without finding a
solution.
My Windows ME operating system was pre installed and I do not have an
original installation CD.
I have gone back as far as I am comfortable with using System Restore
without success.
Any suggestions of how I may get out of my problem?

I have run my anti virus program, also Adaware and Spybot my computer was
clean.
I have confirmed that IE6 SP1 is installed.
The 6 files in the ''C:\Windows\PCHealth\Helpctr\Binaries'' folder are all
present.
I have re-registered the Help Centre.
I have referred to Article ID 274736 which is for 'The Initialization of the
Help Centre Failed' although this is for error number 2147024893 and the
error number I receive is 214714678.
I have referred to Article ID 278449 re System Information (Msinfo32.exe).
I have failed to resolve my problem and am unable to find an Article which
refers to error number 214714678.
Fortunately the rest of my computer appears to be working normally apart
from Help and Support. It is most frustrating.

Please check the error number - it would appear to be a digit short
(although that may be due to my misunderstanding, rather than to your
misreading!)

Try reinstalling the JET engine and the MDAC engine, and see if that
helps......

run the checker tool to make sure that MDAC is installed properly....

see if that helps

I regret the error number (yes, one digit short) it should have read 2147143678

I reinstalled the JET engine and Help & Support was restored. However when I
opened System Information
I had a complete freeze once the system information had been refreshed.
I then reinstalled the MDAC engine and it would appear that Help and Support
is working once again in full.
Many thanks for your help.

Good news! - thanks for the feedback!

Let's hope that things stay that way - post back if they don't.
