On my brand new PC custom built on Asus P5VD1-X 512MB RAM Win ME, Ati Radeon
9550 256MB with last available Ati drivers.
Direct 3D test fails, no spinning cube on my black screen with some light
triangles.
Result message: Failure at Step 32 .... HRESULT 0x000000000.
Directx version 9.0c (not December 2005 release)
Any Advice?
Thanks in advance.

Have you installed the motherboard's AGP drivers? - try looking on their
website for a new set.

I installed the chipset drivers (4in1) that I founs in the support CD.
I will check for updated drivers (VIAHyperion on Viaarena site).
The graphic card appears to share IRQ11 with theVIA Universal serial bus
(USB) resource, I dont know if this could be a problem.
I set up the motherboard with PNP O/S "No" (the default), therefore Windows
uses ACPI table from BIOS, seems from the knowledge base that ME is capable
to manage IRQ set by the BIOS, I dont rimember how I set up the previous
Motherboard.
I have the report from Dxdiag that shows no error, from the PowerStrip
report appears that AGP Transfer mechanism is Disabled so no  DMA!?.

I updated the VIA AGP drivers but no change.
Next step, I will update the MB chipset Drivers.

Thanks

AGP Transfer mechanism disabled? - have you tweaked the BIOS and switched
off the AGP Aperture? (should probably be set at about 64MB)
(although it would seem that this setting is the default in Radeon, from the
looks of various forum posts)
BTW - PowerStrip is reported to have problems, so I would suggest
uninstalling it until you have your known problems sorted out - it will
almost certainly conflict with the ATI Control Panel.

As I said, UNINSTALL PowerStrip before proceeding further - then re-evaluate
the situation.
PS seems to have some problems, and is best left out of the equation until
the main problems are sorted

Powerstrip uninstalled.
As soon as possible I will unplug all other PCI devices (Firewire ports,
WinTV card) and see if one of them is conflicting with graphic card.
Thank you Noel for your advice I'm not going to give up until I find the
problem.
My last Resource is to upgrade to XP.

Hope to get your reply after my post on these test results

Installed Directx is 9.0c do you suggest to upgrade to
"directx_dec2005_redist",
Before making any new test?

Thanks a lot

It shouldn't be necessary - see how the system performs now, then do the
update (that may give a little more info on exactly where the problem is)

I uninstalled all PIC boards (Firewire and WinTV) Hrdware is noy only MB and
graphic adapter, no other PCI devices.
Started in safe mode, deleted all monitors, all graphic cards, Firevire
device and all WinTV hardware instances.
Started again the system (not safe mode), VGA standard 16 colors, new
hardware found, hardware detection, graphic card Radeon 9550 detected,
correct drivers found, restart.
The system seems Ok, look into Control Panel’s System, I’ve found two
Monitors, Sony Multiscan and Standard Monitor, under Graphic adapter, Radeon
9550 and Radeon 9550 Secondary (This graphic board supports double monitor).
I run dixdiag again direct 3D error, no spinning cube (Now I miss it).
This graphic card should support Directx 9.0!
Maybe this MB is too new for Win ME, in motherboard resource I’ve found an
unknown MB resource that appears to be in conflict with another MB resource
sharing the same memory range. I tried to run the Hardware troubleshooter
through the button found in this resource property panel but nothing happens.
After this test, I plugged again the firewire board and hardware detection
was ok. If  I can tonight I will install again WinTV since appears that is
not a problem of PCI devices.

Next step I will install directx 9.0 December release.

Thank you for any additional help

Noel, do you mind if I provide to you some printout of Dxdiag and of System
Configuration to see if you find some wrong settings?

sure - email them to me (my email here is valid, despite appearances!),
rather than posting them to the group
