Joan, thanks for the link, however no details regarding this subject.
Mike, do not have access to floppys and the file you suggest is not in start
up.
Thanks

If there is no *Statemgr entry in MSConfig look no further since that is
almost certainly the reason for your problem. Unless the state manager is
running neither system restore nor system file protection are operative.
So, rather than a floppy, all you need to do is to replace the missing
entry by undoing the edit you performed that removed it. Failing that
you will need to use Regedit.
Open Regedit and in the LH pane browse to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
now move to the RH pane and right click on a blank section and select
String Value from the New menu.
Name the string
*StateMgr
(NB the leading * is important here) and set its value to
C:\WINDOWS\System\Restore\StateMgr.exe
Alternatively cut the following from between the ++++++ lines, past into
notepad and save as the file SRfix.reg. It is important that the last
line be blank.
++++++++++++
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices]
"*StateMgr"="C:\\WINDOWS\\System\\Restore\\StateMgr.exe"
++++++++++++
Having made SRfix.reg double click to merge with the registry which should
then
add the necessary entry.

Hi Joan,
Well I nearly had to compose a new reply as I nearly couldn't find a copy
of my standard response to this problem. Hence why it took me so long to
reply as I had to put this box back together first before I could get a
copy of my post to use. <g>
Cheers,

FWIW, Joan/Mike, there's a .reg file available on my site to ensure that
users get this one right -
http://www.crashfixpc.com/SRIERFix.reg
It was created for use after IERadicator strips IE out of the system - and
SFP/SR along with it.
