I have a Gateway Pentium 3 machine with Windows ME installed.
Lately, I tried to "defrag" the hard drive and it never got past 1%
finished! I tried to run the "Scan disk" utility and never get past
about 6-7 bars in the progress window. It never finishes the
routine.
Does anyone know how I can find out what is hanging things up?
Should I try and restore the system or what?
This WOULD happen at TAX TIME!
Can anyone help? Please e-mail me direct at ebjr@i-55.com
if you can!
OR should I put this appeal on another newsgroup?

1. Post this in the WinME General group.....more traffic.
2. Have you tried scandisking FIRST in Safe Mode?? And if that goes
thru, defrag there too. (reboot, hold down the Ctrl key and that should
get you into safe mode)
3. You can't do a Restore if this has been happening a week or two.
When did you last defrag? And always Scandisk first, btw.
4. The gurus are in England and should be up and about shortly.
Good luck...Heather

Try doing all your scandisk and defrag offline with your anti virus shut off .
. when finished reboot . I run winME
also and thats what works for me .
