Hi all,
Several times in the past two weeks, and twice this afternoon, I have received the message "Explorer has caused an error in GDI.EXE.
Explorer will now close".
This is followed by another dialogue box giving the option to Close or Ignore - neither of which works!  A reboot is necessary.  The
problem seems to occur only when I'm using Outlook Express.   Until this, my WinME has been working quite well and has the full
batch of updates provided by MS.
Grateful for any thoughts on what the cause might be, and on how to cure it.

try this
Reboot to Safe Mode
Open Device Manager
Remove ALL Display Adapters
Remove ALL Monitors
Reboot to Normal Mode - Windows will reinstall the required drivers -
hopefully curing your problem.

Noel:  I tried your suggestion (with some trepidation) but all worked well and Windows reloaded the drivers.  Hope it's a cure (BG).

Many thanks, Jim

Glad to hear it seems to have worked, Jim - post back if it goes sour again!

Noel,

Your cure for the GDI problem seems to be working, but since taking the action you recommended, my WordPerfect program refuses to
print envelopes and labels.  A dialogue box states "Pfppop70 has caused an error in Kernel32.dll.  Pfppop70 will now close".  WP
Help doesn't offer any solution, so I have looked in Google and seems the problem is connected to printer drivers, but no indication
of a cure.  I've reinstalled WP, reinstalled my Canon printer drivers, but the problem persists.  Documents still print OK, so I'm a
bit puzzled.  Any thoughts?

Jim.
